For the past two decades, Mr. David Watson has worked to mentor, empower, and uplift youth and young adults in Miami Dade County. The cornerstone of David's mentoring is based upon his belief that through uplifting programs and positive interpersonal relationships, he can make an influential difference in his community. While volunteering as a coach and mentor youth for the Richmond Perrine Giants Optimist Program, the vision of SYSTEM Miami Inc. was formed; having personal witness to the joy the children experienced from travel events, the bond for betterment, growth from Sports involvement, and the need for tutoring created within David a desire to create a program that could replicate and expand the impact to other communities in need. David is a true believer in people and SYSTEM Miami Inc. is designed to be a tool to guide youth away from the jail, prison, and residential drug treatment settings and focus them on gaining acceptance into the University community.
In addition to his work in the community, David is a Rehabilitation Service Supervisor for Miami Dade County while also working in jail, prison, and residential drug treatment settings. David received his B.S. degree in Criminal Justice and M.A. degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from South Carolina State University, His M.S. degree in Criminal Justice from Florida International University and is a Certified Addictions Professional (CAP). Artentry is a native of Homestead Fl, and a product of Miami Dade Public Schools. She went on to obtain a Bachelor of Science degree in education from Barry University in 2006, and later earned a master’s in educational leadership in 2015.
For the past 12 years she has worked to mentor, educate, and inspire the students she encounters. Working in areas of very low socioeconomic status many of the children have limited support as well as resources outside of school. Artentry takes initiatives to improve the lives of her students and their families.
Artenty started the first cheerleading group at her school, and spear headed fundraisers so that there was no cost to the students. She volunteered as a cheerleading coach, Theodore Gibson Oratorical Sponsor, and International Thespians Society Sponsor during her time as a middle school teacher. She has also coordinated schoolwide Thanksgiving basket drives, books, clothing, and toy drives, as well as talent shows.
Artentry knows that providing extracurricular activities outside of academics helps boost self-esteem and gets parents more involved in their children’s lives. Building a relationship and creating a since of family with her students encourages them to try harder in academics because they know someone is there to support them.
Outside of school Artentry is known to many as “Ms. Jackson” from her time as a team mom for the Richmond Perrine Giants football team. Her experience with the Richmond Perrine Giants expands over 10 years where she helped support the team as treasurer, assist in travel coordination, fundraising, and most of all mentoring the kids. She also supports various organizations such as H.E.L.P and SBC Community Development Corporation in feeding the needy, sponsoring families for Christmas, and volunteering for school supply drives.
The most important people in her life are her husband of 19 years and 3 children. Because her children are a product of System Miami’s philosophy, Artenty knows that it really works.
